Being able to turn my passion into a career has been one of the biggest blessings in my life! If you would have told me 20 years ago that I would not only be teaching piano lessons, but running my own piano business and creating resources for other piano teachers (WHATTT?!), I would have told you to pinch me!
No, this isn’t some overnight success story, where I magically made 6 figures
but rather some simple changes that I made to my business that have truly made alllllll the difference!
Teachers, are any of these tasks on your to-do list this year?
*Create an online course
*Start email marketing
*Grow my social media following
*Sell teaching resources for passive income
Does just seeing this list overwhelm you? Maybe you are asking – Where do I even begin?! I can be the first to tell you how overwhelming it can be to figure out what steps to take in order to start scaling your business.
Maybe you are pouring all of your hours into teaching piano lessons, just to make ends meet, and you have NO time to put energy into actually growing your business. UM – I’ve been there!!
On today’s blog, I want to share with you a few ways that I have been able to scale my business over the years, while also being able to (actually) scale back my time!!
OUTSOURCING
It took me a long time to finally realize that I simply just cannot do it all. Being able to outsource has helped me to focus on the things that I love the most about my work! Whether it’s hiring a graphic designer, a copywriter, an accountant, etc. — having someone handle these areas of your business allows you time to focus more on your core business! When you start to do the things you love and delegate the rest, YOU’D BE SHOCKED at how much better your business flows!
Let’s give a “for instance” shall we…
PROBLEM: You are spending countless hours trying to keep up with payments for lessons and constantly emailing back and forth with families.
SOLUTION: Maybe it’s time to hire an assistant who can keep up with all of that for you, so now you have the time to start that YouTube channel you’ve been thinking about!
PROBLEM: You are swamped with trying to keep up with the latest social media trends, and you didn’t realize how time consuming it would be to come up with posts and also do it consistently.
SOLUTION: Maybe it’s time to outsource someone who is well versed in allllll things social media, shares your vision and business values, and can help you develop your social media to what you’ve always wished for.
I can be the first to tell you that investing in your business is something you won’t regret. My stress levels are significantly lower and it’s ahhhh-mazing! Just because you outsource doesn’t mean you can’t be involved in your business. It just means that tasks are being accomplished faster and with better results from someone who has expertise in that specific area!
RESOURCES AND ONLINE COURSES
The resources and courses that I have created have been a GAME CHANGER when it comes to passive income! Yes – it does take time to prep and create, but resources like my
Boom Cards, theory books,
NoteMatch, and the
Cascade Method Program have all been amazing resources to help with passive income!
The
key to creating resources is to create something that people
actually need! For example, I have seen my Boom Cards really take off in the last year because I know what piano teachers are looking for and I have designed resources that meet those needs. If you don’t have your own site to sell digital resources or e-courses you can always start on
Etsy or
Teachers Pay Teachers – just be aware they will take a fraction of the cost before paying you.
And a PRO TIP: Don’t be afraid to give something for free!!
I have seen teachers be more inclined to buy Boom Cards after receiving a free deck from one of my Freebie Friday emails! Once they see what kind of content you are offering and have used it for themselves, they will want more and know it’s worth investing in more!
You have something to offer, even if you think you don’t!! Chances are, if you have made something for yourself that has helped your own business or students, it will help someone else.
VIRTUAL ASSISTANT
Good gracious, I could go on forevvvverrr about virtual assistants!! This has been one of my most recent investments and I just can’t say enough good things about having a virtual assistant!! BIG shoutout to Leslie, who I found through
Upwork!!
Leslie has helped tremendously with my business! She just GETS me
She immediately dived right in and helps take care of all the things! Everything that once took up so much of my time is now in the excellent hands of my virtual assistant.
Having a VA also means having someone to collaborate with. I highly recommend finding someone who shares your vision and understands your values, and honestly just hiring someone that you truly get along with. You will communicate A LOT with your VA, so you want to make sure it’s someone you actually like
With a VA now in my life, I have actually had MORE time to work on growing my business. With her handling those time-consuming tasks, I can now accomplish more on my end. Imagine the things you’d have time for JUST by hiring a VA!!
KNOW YOUR WORTH
Maybe this isn’t a tip as much as it is encouragement. You are worth something!! And sometimes it just feels good to hear that from someone else.
Fellow business owner, what is your time worth? Maybe you’re worth $100 an hour but you can’t pay yourself that much because you’re too busy preparing invoices or working on social media, that you can’t even do what you need to do. We aren’t meant to do everything by ourselves- there’s simply NOT enough hours in a day.
Scaling your business doesn’t happen in one day (although that would be incredible.
) It happens by staying consistent and daring to go the extra mile within your business.
What ways are you looking to scale your business this year? What has worked for you? I’d love to know in the comments – or message me on Instagram! I absolutely LOVE talking business and it’ll help ME create MORE CONTENT that is valuable to you!
