NoteMatch Games and Boom Cards for Piano Teachers

If there is one thing I LOVE, it’s incorporating games into my teaching — especially Boom Cards!! I’m a firm believer that games need to be fun and educational. With every game I create, I ensure that each one focuses on building upon what my students are working on and gives them a chance to grow in their confidence as well as practice different concepts. 🙌

Today, I want to share some of my FAVE boom card decks to use when working specifically on my NoteMatch Book with students. I like to teach a lesson from the NoteMatch book and then give them a boom card deck to practice throughout the week so they can practice that concept before we meet again!

Before you go any further, I recommend reading my last blog post on the NoteMatch book where I give you a deep dive into what all the book covers!

And if you need a refresher on Boom Cards, you can read my post on all things boom cards! Of course, you can use these decks without the NoteMatch Book or tool, but I’ve intentionally designed them so that they pair well together. I want to make it that much easier for you!!

Now, in the true fashion of summer, put on your goggles and let’s dive in! ☀️🏊

Beginner Bingo – $3.50

This bingo game is a GREAT game for those beginner pianists who are just learning their finger numbers! This 66 card deck will help students grow their confidence in both their right and left-hand finger numbers. This game can be used throughout the school year for quick review, too!

This boom card deck pairs well with the “Hands and Fingering” lesson in my NoteMatch Book 1.

Fishbowl Rhythms – $3.50

This fun fish bowl themed deck of 30 cards is a great way to teach beginner students rhythm! Students will quickly learn to identify quarter notes, half notes, and whole notes. This deck works by simply dragging the correct rhythm notes into the fish bowl. I’ve included written instructions on each card as well.

I like to pair this game with the “Rhythm Rules” lessons that are in NoteMatch Book 1.

Grand Staff Level 1, 2, & 3 – $1.50 (each)

These Boom Card decks are available in 3 levels that are perfect for beginners or great for other students to serve as a quick review! Students will practice recognizing music notes and then select the corresponding clover in this St. Patrick’s themed deck! I’ve added audio as well in case your younger ones are still learning to read!

This boom card deck is available in seasonal themes for Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, summer, and more so you can switch it up from time to time!🍀❤️☀️

In level 1, students will practice recognizing music notes on the staff from the F in the bass clef (4th line), to G in the treble clef (second line).

In level 2, students will practice recognizing music notes on the staff from the C in the bass clef (second space note), to C in the treble clef (third space note).

In level 3, students will practice recognizing music notes on the staff from the lowest G in the bass clef to the highest F in the treble clef.

These boom deck cards are great to use once students have been familiarized with the grand staff!

Rhythm using Kodaly – $2.00

With 35 interactive cards, this deck is perfect for beginners who are starting to jump into learning rhythm and counting.

Students will drag the correct sound under the rhythm. Plus, written and audio instructions are included on each card and direct students to tap the correct answer.

Before we can get to the reading of notes, I really make sure my students understand the dynamics, and rhythm is a huge part of that!

NoteMatch 3 Question Method- $2.00

This 60 deck of cards reinforces my 3 Question Method. The three steps in identifying any note on the staff are the following:

1- Is the note in the Treble Clef or the Bass clef?
2- Is it a LINE note or a SPACE note?
3- If it’s a LINE note, is it line 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5? If it’s a SPACE note, is it space 1, 2, 3 or 4?

Each card requires students to pick between the given options, next to each number. If students understand this process, they’ll never have trouble finding a note on the staff again!!

You can find my “3 Question Method” lesson on page 29 of the NoteMatch book!
