My Favorite Easter Themed Games for Piano

Hoppy March everybody! 💐🐰☀️ Spring is in the air, flowers are starting to bloom, and I’m getting really EGG-cited about the warm weather. 😍 Do you have any favorite traditions around this time?! One of my favorite Easter traditions is dyeing eggs. I just looove all the pretty colors and fun designs you can create! And when it comes to piano lessons, you better believe I love creating all the spring-themed games! 🌸💛🌷

Games are such a great way for students to review skills in a meaningful way, so I’ve put together my top five Easter theme games for piano for you to incorporate into your lessons this month!! Oh and by the way, these games are VERY low effort on your end or no prep at all – ummmm, yes please!! 🙌🏼🤩

1) Eggs In A Basket

Looking to help your kiddos practice their rhythm knowledge? The goal of this game is to sort through the 54 eggs and place them in the correct basket. Each egg features a rhythm belonging to 3/4 or 4/4 time signatures. I like to laminate and cut out everything and then add a slit into the baskets so that students can physically “put the egg in the basket.”

However, if you are strictly online or running low on prep time, I have made this game into a Piano Boom Card set as well!

2) Rhythm Ear Training

This Boom Card deck features 90 cards for students to practice their ear training! They will listen to the audio clip and then choose which egg matches the rhythm they hear. This game is great for both in-person and online lessons!

Check out this game as a Piano Boom Card in our shop.

3)  Intervals Steps And Skips

This game is great for beginner pianists to practice reviewing steps and skips on the staff. With 100 cards to work through, students will determine whether the notes are going up or down, which will ultimately help with their directional reading! This game can also be played on laptops, tablets, and phones!

4) Butterfly Chords

Butterfly Chords is all about helping students become more confident when identifying chords! Each boom card has three butterflies on three keys, which your student will then have to identify the name and type of chord they see on the cards. If they have a piano in front of them, they can replicate the chord, and then use their ear to determine if the chord is major or minor. If not, there is an audio button that can be pressed to determine the type of chord it is.

If you are wanting to take this game a step further, I have also made it into a board game. This deck is the same, but includes extra slides that say “go back one space, go back two spaces, etc.” because it goes with a physical board game! I just wanted to make sure that I could still play this game with my online students as well!!

5) Chords And Scales With Minnie Winnie

This is a fun, effective hands-on game that is great for students who are working on learning their chords. Students will need to identify the correct chord on their card in order to move forward to the next space. The first one to reach Minnie Winnie the Whale, wins! Alsooooo, this game is low prep and easy to implement into lessons!!

This deck of 35 cards is a great way to introduce beginner students to musical terms! All they have to do is drag the correct musical term Easter egg into the Easter Basket. This deck is perfect for little students learning simple musical terms. Laying this foundation will help students be more successful as they learn more and more about music!
This 42 pack of Boom cards help students recognize and reinforce the names of the white piano keys. There are the simple sets of 2 black keys and 3 black keys, but there’s also a combination of both sets of black keys together, in both orders. Meaning, there’s a “big keyboard” with the sets of 2 then 3 black keys, and the opposite, where there’s the set of 3 black keys followed by the 2 black keys. It’s important students get comfortable seeing all the variations!

Have a Hop Full of Fun!

If you’ve been hanging around here for a bit, you may know I absolutely LOVE incorporating games into my piano lessons for my kiddos. Allowing students to play games gives them the chance to review concepts they might have resisted otherwise! Apart from all the fun that games bring, they also add so much value to their learning experience.

I hope you and your students love these Easter-themed games with all the pretty spring colors! 😍 If you use any of these games in your classroom let me know in the comments or tag me on Cascade Method Instagram!
