Helping Your Students Find Passion In Piano

Being a teacher isn’t easy. Regardless of what you teach, it takes a special person to guide others to understand something new. Anyone can play by the book but how does that help your students find passion in the piano?

It’s hard enough to teach in a way that gets through to your students, but what’s even harder than that and somewhat intimidating is also making it fun as you go. Teaching involves a lot of balance and practice. Every teacher is different and uses different methods to get their students to those “ah-ha” moments. (Aren’t those the best!?)

Finding the Passion through the Learning

When it comes to learning an instrument, it can be really frustrating when you know how it’s supposed to sound, but you just keep making noise. As a teacher, you have to keep up the positivity so they continue to try again.

Over the 20 years that I’ve taught piano if a student is not interested in what they’re playing, their likelihood to keep trying after they mess up is slim. I’ve also noticed that if a student doesn’t understand the teaching concept, they’ll never actually retain the information you’re teaching them.

It breaks my heart when I hear of students who quit piano or become bored with it. I truly believe that every person who is exposed to the piano can find a passion for it, but it’s up to the teacher to BRING the STUDENT’S passion out.

Focus on what they like, not what you like.

Every student is different. Some students will fall in love with all the classical pieces, whereas others dread them. As their teacher, it’s your job to feel out what they like and what they don’t like. I’m not suggesting that you never teach your hip-hop loving students classical music, but in the beginning stages of their piano career, you need to teach them what they like so they find their passion in the instrument.

Once students hear the music that they want to hear and know that it’s possible to play it with their own hands, it opens their mind to trying different types of music. Students deserve to fall in love with the instrument in the way they want!

Need some inspiration?

Maybe you’re unsure how to teach in a way that resonates with their music preference or interests. Maybe the only way you know how to teach is how you learned or you only teach what you like.

I encourage you to step out of your box and try something new for the sake of your student’s opinion on the piano. But how, you may ask?

Fortunately, there is a program that allows you to learn methods and teaching techniques that create a fun way to learn the piano. It’s going to take a small investment on your end and lots of effort on learning a new teaching method, but your students will thank you and your piano teaching career could thrive better than it ever has before.

The Teacher Training Program:
Teaching you how to help your students find their passion in the piano.

It is possible to teach the piano in a modern-day way. It is possible to entertain your students and get them excited about coming to their piano lessons! I know this because I live it out each and every day.

By utilizing the Cascade Method teaching formula, I have a 100% success rate with all my students. I have students that started learning the piano with me as young children and continue to learn from me until they head off to college. Some of them have even decided to become Certified Cascade Method Teachers and join me in this rewarding and fun career!

If you want your students to appreciate the piano and look forward to learning specifically from you, then you need to further your teaching development and get to understand their perspective.

How is the Cascade Method Teacher Training Program different from other programs?

This fully online program provides over 130-course units that are broken down into six modules. Each module has tons of video lectures that show me, (Founder, Tara Boykin) explaining how to teach and play the piano with this formula. We share all the juicy methods and secret techniques within this training, so we can further our efforts at grooming well-rounded musicians who are sincerely passionate about playing the piano!

That’s our mission! We believe in the power of the teacher. One of our favorite quotes is, “the influence of a good teacher can never be erased.” That’s why the Cascade Method Training Program was born!

I knew it was impossible for me to teach every child piano the fun way, (obviously), so I thought I’d make a program that shared my passion and successful teaching skills, so other teachers could adopt this awesome framework!

I hope that this inspires you to help your students find their own passion in playing the piano. We all have a spark that just needs to be lit within us to find the beauty around us. That’s with everything, but I especially know that’s true with the piano!
